Outlines of the Society
Japanese Society of Child Neurology (JSCN) was founded in 1961. Some of the founding members of JSCN are still actively leading the field of pediatric neurology in Japan. The current number of full members is 3300. JSCN is among the largest affiliated societies to Japan Pediatric Association. JSCN has 9 local chapters (Kyushu, Chugoku-Shikoku, Kinki, Tokai, Hokuriku, Koshinetsu, Kanto, Tohoku and Hokkaido). General Assembly of JSCN has been held once a year usually in May or in June. The average number of participants has been around 1200, with 400 strong free papers, plenary lectures and invited lectures. The subjects of the papers and lectures encompass almost every aspect of child neurology, neurosurgery, psychiatry, rehabilitation medicine and related basic science as molecular biology, neurophysiology, neuropathology, and neuropharmacology. Each local chapter is holding its annual meeting once or twice a year. JSCN has been also sponsoring annual teaching conference named Graduate Seminar of Child Neurology for young pediatric neurologists since 1971. Every year, 100 to 120 young pediatric neurologists are attending various lectures, case conference and symposia in order to upgrade their knowledge on pediatric neurology and related fields.
